About Billet Better

Hockey boys have my heart.

Despite the smells, laundry, and grocery receipts that never end, billeting a hockey player has rewards beyond measure. As a past billet mom, I cherish the time and relationships created with my “other boys.” In addition, I can never repay my own son’s billet families whose incredible generosity and love he still benefits from today.

This was my impetus for creating Billet Better.

Yes, I had the player who refused to help with chores, a few unpaid billet fees, and (scarily) a call from a collection agency because, as the temporary guardian of a minor player, my name (and credit score) was on a doctor bill that never got paid.

But I would do it again in a second.

I don’t have the opportunity to share my home with billet boys right now. But I hope to pay things forward in the hockey community in my own way. Drawing on my own experiences, plus invaluable suggestions from coaches, parents, billet coordinators, and other billet hosts,  I’ve created Billet Better to help an important part of junior hockey go a little bit more smoothly.

If you’ve been involved with billeting before, thank you. If you’re new to this experience, buckle up. It’s something thousands of people have truly come to love. And I hope you do, too.
